Last week I shared a chocolate chip cake recipe with a frosting we really love, so this week, I figured I would share how we usually make it. (I forgot to take a pic before hubby took it to work, oops)
The first time I made this cake, it was with lemon pie filling and lemon frosting, which is divine! My hubby LOVES anything cherry, so I thought I should try it with cherry pie filling and cherry frosting. Needless to say, it was a huge hit, and he requests it often!
All you need is a white cake mix, one can of pie filling of your choice, flavored frosting (to compliment the pie filling flavor) tub of cool whip. Make the cake according to directions, put in pan, then put spoonfuls of pie filling on the cake batter. Make sure to spread it out a little so you have cake surrounding the pie filling. Bake the cake per the directions, and let cool completely before frosting. While the cake is cooling, add frosting to a bowl and fold in about half of the cool whip container, then frost and enjoy!
I actually made this as a thank you to the guys at my hubby's office since they wrapped my car for me last week. Since the pan came home empty, I think they liked it! I hope you enjoy this recipe!
